The Sulger-Buel Gallery is pleased to present an original short film by Frederique Cifuentes documenting Hyacinthe Ouattara’s artist residency at Sulger-Buel Gallery.

‘The Complexity of the Universe’ is Hyacinthe Ouattara’s first solo exhibition in London.

The artist created this series of paintings during a residency at the gallery. The artworks interact in a meditative and poetic dialogue with the gallery’s space, and represent an immaterial detachment from reality, inspired by the rhythm of the physical space.

For Ouattara, art is a quest for self-discovery in harmony with the world around him.

This body of work manifests this pursuit and how the absorption and introspection of the physical space translate into new and unexpected metaphysical creations.

Colours, texture and materials are essential components in the work of Ouattara to capture the essence of reality.

His spontaneous and gestural painting technique generates organic shapes suspended between balance and instability.

Painting allows the artist to capture the frequencies and rhythms of our fast-paced world and manifest them tangibly, counterpoising a space of harmonious contemplation to the world’s chaos.
